EXECUTIVE POSITIONS
VICE PRESIDENT, WESTERN REGION (Los Angeles)
American Friends of Tel Aviv University seeks a seasoned and successful development executive to serve as Vice President of AFTAU's Western Region — the area's senior campaign and development director.
The successful candidate will have a proven record of success in campaign strategy; donor cultivation and relationship-building; major gifts solicitation; and experience in developing and expanding regional operations.
Reporting to AFTAU's President, s/he will have responsibility for identifying, cultivating and soliciting a major gift portfolio for outright and deferred gifts, as well as managing the development and administrative personnel in Los Angeles, the Bay Area, and other regional offices that may be established.
S/he will have a dynamic presence and excellent character, able to inspire and motivate staff. S/he will work equally well with donors, board members and other volunteer leadership, national and regional colleagues, and colleagues at the University in Tel Aviv.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and implement a region-wide campaign strategy focused on identifying, cultivating, stewarding and soliciting donors and prospects. -
Personally manage a major portfolio — cultivate, steward and solicit major gifts. -
Manage, motivate, and mentor all development and administrative staff in the region. -
Work with existing national and regional board leadership to identify new leadership and new donor prospects. Train, mentor and motivate leaders to maximize their potential as donors and as resources for relationship building, cultivation and development activities. -
Build relationships, increase awareness, and elevate the stature of the American Friends organization and Tel Aviv University in the region. -
Develop regular engagement opportunities for donors, prospects and leadership, including the supervision and leveraging of major events and smaller donor cultivation activities within the region. -
Work with donors, national staff, and key personnel and faculty at TAU to identify or create funding opportunities that will best match donor’s interests and priorities with TAU’s own priorities and needs. -
Initiate Planned Giving solicitations with donors and prospects, to be developed/finalized by appropriate staff members. -
Actively reach out to develop young leaders and TAU alumni living in the region to build a New Generation subgroup of American Friends. -
Create and execute a plan for developing and recruiting local donor committees within the Western Region (i.e. a San Diego area committee) and assist in the creation and recruitment of supporting donor committees for individual Faculties within the university (i.e. the School of Law).
QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree, at least 8 years experience, and a proven track record of fund raising success with specific responsibility for campaign planning and implementation, donor cultivation and stewardship, and major gifts solicitation. -
Experience and a strong comfort level with high-end donors and philanthropists. -
Sophisticated, mature, honest and politically savvy, with strong leadership, management and supervisory skills. -
Successful self-starter who can work independently but can also collaborate with other professionals and volunteer leadership in a team setting. -
Flexible and creative thinker able to find and take advantage of new giving opportunities and new donor engagement/relationship-building activities. -
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. -
Good familiarity with Israeli society, culture, life, history and politics. -
Flexibility and willingness to travel throughout the region and to Israel as needed. -
Experience in high-end fundraising in the greater Los Angeles area is preferred.
