The stunning home of former Congressman Mel Levine and author Connie Bruck — nestled in the Pacific Palisades mountains overlooking the ocean — provided the perfect setting for supper and a stimulating briefing on The Turmoil in the Middle East: Implications for Israel.
The Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) partnered with American Friends of Tel Aviv University (AFTAU) to present Dr. Oded Eran, Israel's former Ambassador to Jordan and the European Union and Director of the INSS, and Dr. Emily Landau, Director of Arms Control and the Regional Security Program at the Institute. Dr. Eran addressed the potential impact of the "Arab Spring" on Israel and Dr. Landau shared her insights on diplomatic initiatives to confront the nuclear ambitions of Iran and North Korea.
Among the 65 guests were valued friends of the INSS and AFTAU, including Lois & Dick Gunther, Karren Ganstwig & Howard Welinsky, Ira Reiner, Anne & Andrew Kaplan, Donna & Barry Bernstein, Joe & Wendy Shalant, Ruth & Michel Steinberger, Fred Adler, Denise Klassy, Jeffrey & Joyce Levine, Effie & Shuli Katz and Geraldine Spira. TAU Alumni were also well represented by Dr. Doron Kahana, Miguel Da Vinchi, Tommy & Michal Orpaz, Michael Nudelman, Orna Yarzin and Clark Hoover.
As an expression of his appreciation, Dr. Eran presented Mel with a shofar he brought specially from Israel.
