The first two programs of AFTAU's popular lunch-and-learn financial planning series drew overflow audiences of Northern Broward and Palm Beach county American Friends.

On January 27, tax attorney and estate planning specialist Thomas O. Katz of Katz, Baskies LLC kicked off the series with a highly informative session on safeguarding and protecting money, including tips on creditor protections, spendthrift trusts and news rules related to Roth IRA conversions in 2010.

In the second session on February 10, Alan Topchik of the AMT Insurance Group LLC, who serves as the planned giving advisor to the Southeast Region of AFTAU, discussed essential estate planning techniques in light of the uncertainty surrounding this year's current expiration on federal estate taxes that might be subject to retroactive reinstatement by Congress.

Upcoming programs are filling up quickly. On March 10, investment specialist James Riggio will discuss investment risk in today's economy, and a final session on March 24 will feature planned giving specialist Neal Myerberg on recession-proof planning in 2010 and beyond.
