Nearly 100 American Friends gathered for "breakfast with the experts" at the Regency Hotel during AFTAU's first annual economics symposium, sponsored by Bank Hapoalim.

William Cicio, Treasurer of Bank Hapoalim, described 2011 as a "year of recovery" in the U.S., while Jose Luis Daza, Chief Investment Officer of QFR Capital Management, discussed the shift to emerging markets as a larger part of investment portfolios. Prof. Leonardo Leiderman of Tel Aviv University's Eitan Berglas School of Economics and Chief Economic Advisor of Bank Hapoalim described the ways in which the economic crisis was affecting Europe and Japan and the challenges faced without a strong, centralized body to regulate fiscal policy in these regions.

AFTAU Board Member Alan Silberstein welcomed the accomplished panel. In closing, special guest Harvey Krueger, Chairman of TAU's Board of Governors and Vice Chairman of Barclays Capital, spoke about the importance of higher education for Israel's future and the excellent return possible for supporting TAU's top-rated Eitan Berglas School of Economics.
