TAU ranked number one university in Israel and 116th worldwide

TAU Faculty of Medicine ranked 92nd and Faculty of Life Sciences ranked 108th in the world

Tel Aviv University (TAU) has been ranked the #1 university in Israel and #116 in the world by the prestigious National Taiwan University (NTU) Rankings organization. Additionally, the Faculty of Medicine was ranked #92, up from #98 in last year’s ranking.  TAU’s George S. Wise Faculty of Life Sciences ranked #108 in the world, five places higher than last year’s #113.

The rankings are based on the number of academic publications and citations, alongside indexes of research excellence.  The survey ranked 874 top global universities. 

The top five include Harvard, Stanford, University of London, Oxford, and Johns Hopkins.  Of Israeli universities, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem was ranked 273rd and the Technion is in 346th place. Ben-Gurion University, Bar-Ilan University, and the University of Haifa did not make the top 400.

TAU is a globally top-ranked university, a leading research institution, and a center of discovery. As Israel’s largest public institution of higher learning, TAU is home to 30,000 students, including 2,100 international students from over 100 countries. The University encompasses nine faculties, 35 schools, 400 labs, and has 17 affiliated hospitals in its network.

NTU Rankings provides World University Rankings by six fields and 27 selected subjects. It is based wholly on scientific publications. Through examining long-term performances and short-term research efforts, NTU Rankings offers a more objective ranking as a reference of the diverse research performances of universities worldwide.
